THERE HAS BEEN flooding in Cork, Kerry and other counties today amid ongoing rain and wind warnings.
A Status Orange rainfall warning for Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford was in place throughout today until 9pm.
Rainfall totals of 50 to 80mm were expected, with higher amounts in mountainous regions. Cork County Council said over 76mm of rain has been recorded in some areas.
Drivers in areas where weather warnings have been place are being asked to watch out for flooding and wind-blown debris.
“Slow down, give plenty of space to all road users and neve drive through standing water unless you are certain it’s not too deep for your vehicle,” AA Roadwatch said.

Cork County Council’s severe weather assessment team met this evening to reassess the impact of today’s conditions.
The Council said the River Blackwater has been rising slowly and nearing road level on the N72 at Mallow Racecourse, which may result in the closure of the road. Local diversions will be signposted.

Flood barriers have been erected in Fermoy and Mallow with the early warning systems in place.
Bridge Street in Mallow was fully closed by 7pm as a peak in the area is expected at 10pm.
The Council said the closure of the bridge in Fermoy will continue to be monitored in line with river levels. Peak in Fermoy is expected between 3am and 6am. Council crews are on standby.
The R639 is expected to close after midnight.
Pumping arrangements have continued in known locations with no major flooding of properties having been reported, the Council said.

Several roads have been impacted as a result of fallen trees and localised flooding. Details of road closures in Cork County can be found here.
Issues such as fallen trees, flooding and road damage can be reported to the Council’s emergency out-of-hours number on 021 4800048.
In Kerry, the N72 road between Killorglin and Beaufort will remain closed overnight due to flood waters at Ballymalis. The R563 is also closed overnight.

The Mill Road in Killarney has also been closed to traffic due to flooding.
Elsewhere today, a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Limerick and Connacht was in place until 9pm.
Some river flooding and localised surface flooding was expected in these areas with rainfall totals of 30 to 50mm, higher in mountainous regions.
