FIREFIGHTERS IN CORK have brought “major fire” on the north side of the city under control, after people were advised to avoid the area last night.

The fire happened in Churchfield, off John F Connolly Road, and Cork City Fire Brigade battled the fire into the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters are using foam in an attempt to extinguish the fire. People in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Fire crews from Anglesea street and Ballyvolane, along with a water tanker, attended the scene to deal with the flames.

In an update this morning, Cork City Fire Brigade said the fire is now under control after its crew “battled through the night”.

The service said one crew is currently at the scene to dampen remaining hot spots.
