Tributes paid to man (19) who died in Dublin Port accident

SIPTU expressed their condolences to the man’s family

TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN paid to a 19-year-old man who died in a workplace accident in Dublin Port yesterday.

Karan O’Loughlin, SIPTU Transport Division Organiser, expressed the union’s condolences to the man’s family.

“Unfortunately, a tragic death like this is not an uncommon occurrence. Five workers have died, and others have been seriously injured, in various ports around Ireland, including in Dublin Port, since 2018.

“Our thoughts are with the family of this young man who so tragically lost his life in his workplace.”

The incident took place yesterday at a shipping premises in Dublin Port. Gardaí were alerted to the incident at approximately 3:30pm

Both Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene.

SIPTU has called on the Government to introduce stronger safe working standards for all workers in Irish ports and docks.

Five workers have died and others seriously injured while working in ports around Ireland since 2018.
