Coronavirus: 448 new cases confirmed in Ireland

The figures were released by the Department this evening.

LAST UPDATE | 26 May 2021

PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS have confirmed an additional 448 cases of Covid-19 in Ireland as of midnight last night.

The figures were released by the Department of Health in a statement this evening.

The Department also said that there are 99 people in hospital being treated for Covid-19, with 41 of those patients in ICU.

There was no information on the number of deaths due to Covid-19.

The Department has also noted that current case numbers may change with any future data validation.

As of yesterday, the Department has changed how Covid-19 figures will be reported in the wake of the cyber attack on the HSE

Previously, daily positive swab results were reported from laboratories to the HSE’s contact management programme.

Now, daily case numbers will be based on data extracts from the Covid Care Tracker (CCT).

This is the IT system that records data collected from phonecalls with Covid-19 cases and their close contacts.

Revised case numbers have been released due to the changes.

According to the Department, when Covid-19 surveillance systems are restored, all data from this period will be collated and validated using the HSE’s Computeried Infectious Disease Reporting system.

The 100,000th vaccine was also administered in the City West mass vaccination centre this afternoon.

The vaccination was an AstraZeneca jab, given to Des O’Grady from Castleknock by Cpl Tommy Carew of the Defence Forces.

Defence Forces personnel are currently working within 11 mass vaccination centres around the country as vaccinators, site management and logistics.
