'A very busy night': Dublin Fire Brigade battle gorse fire on Howth Head

The fire service also attended other fires in Kilbarrack and St Anne’s Park on the northside of the city.

FIREFIGHTERS have attended the scene of a gorse fire in Howth, Dublin.

Dublin Fire Brigade said said firefighters with four pumping appliances and a water tanker responded to the blaze yesterday evening.

Using lightweight wildfire firefighting equipment, a presence was maintained throughout the night.

The first 999 call in relation to the fire was received at 8.35pm and the incident was resolved at 7.30am.

There were no reports of any injuries or damages to houses.

Dublin City Council said in a statement that rain overnight aided firefighting efforts, however noted that the rain is absorbed quickly and vegetation is still a risk.

There is a yellow fire warning in place for the remainder of the summer season.

“To avoid future fires we ask the public t0 only barbecue in designated areas, do not light camp fires, discard of smoking material in a responsible way and report any suspicious or anti-social behaviour to An Garda Síochána immediately,” the council said.

“If you come across a wildfire, many sure you retreat to a safe position and ring 112/999 at the first opportunity. The earlier we are informed of the fire the earlier we can start firefighting and limit the spread,” it said.

Elsewhere, Dublin Fire Brigade said it was experiencing a “very busy night” with gorse fires, as it attended other fires in Kilbarrack and St Anne’s Park on the northside of the city.
