PSNI officers granted additional time to question man in relation to suspected murder in Co Tyrone

The court extension is for an additional 36 hours.

POLICE IN THE North have been granted a court extension for an additional 36 hours to question a 20-year-old man for suspicion of murder.

On Sunday night, PSNI officers were alerted to a serious assault in Omagh at around 11.55pm.

Officers attended the scene alongside personnel from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

A 53-year-old man died a short time later, while the other man was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to his hand.

PSNI officers arrested the 20-year-old man on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Caldwell has appealed to anyone who was in the Slievecoole Park area or licensed premises in the Gortin Road area, prior to or around the time the assault was reported, to make contact with the police.

The post-mortem has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
