Over 16,000 customers left without power in north Dublin and Meath this evening due to faults

Most customers have since had their power restored, however.

LAST UPDATE | 16 Jan 2023

OVER 16,000 homes and businesses were without power in north Dublin and Meath this evening due to three electrical faults.

Most customers have since had their power restored, however.

An outage in the Julianstown area was reported on the ESB’s PowerCheck website at 5.18pm.

In a statement shortly after 7.20pm, a spokesperson for the ESB stated that power had been returned to 3,000 customers near Balbriggan and that the issue should be rectified in a few hours.

“There are three unrelated faults in North Dublin and East Meath this evening. Crews are mobilised in each case and real time updates are available on Powercheck.ie,” the ESB spokesperson said.

A cable fault had occurred on an overhead line between Balbriggan and Julianstown, which the company said had initially impacted 10,000 customers in the area.

A separate overhead line fault between Swords and Donabate resulted in a loss of power to 5,000 customers in parts of those towns, as well as Lusk, the ESB confirmed.

A circuit tripping near Coolock has also caused an outage to approximately 1,500 customers in Santry, the ESB added.

A small outage in the south Dublin suburb of Foxrock also impacted dozens of customers.
