Man dies after being struck by lorry on M6 following single vehicle collision

The incident happened at around 5am on the M6 at Ballygarraun West, Athenry.

A MAN HAS died after being struck by a lorry on the M6 in Co Galway earlier this morning. 

The incident happened at around 5am on the M6 at Ballygarraun West, Athenry. 

Following a single vehicle collision, the driver of the car, a man aged in his 50s, left the vehicle and was struck by a lorry. 

He was fatally injured. 

His body has been taken from the scene to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. 

The driver of the lorry, a man aged in his 50s, was uninjured. 

A technical examination of the scene is ongoing by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road remains closed with local diversions in place. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
