Fresh searches after man in his 80s dies from suspected gunshot injuries in Co Kerry

The man was found dead at his home in Castlemaine in Co Kerry early yesterday.

FRESH SEARCHES HAVE been taking place today by gardaí investigating the death of a man in his 80s who died after suffering suspected gunshot injuries at the weekend.

The man was found dead at his home in Castlemaine in Co Kerry early yesterday. It’s understood he was a licensed gun owner and dealer.

However despite the presence of suspected gunshot wounds, it’s understood gardaí did not find a firearm at the scene.

The man was pronounced dead at his home yesterday, and his body later taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry in Tralee.

A Garda spokesperson said yesterday that officers from Tralee Garda Station are investigating “all of the circumstances” around the man’s death

The results of a post-mortem examination will determine the course of the investigation, the spokesperson added.

The scene at the man’s home has been preserved and fresh searches have been taking place across land in the area today.

The village of Castlemaine lies around halfway between Killorglin and Tralee on the N70 road.
