THE 17-YEAR-OLD victim of a fatal single-vehicle collision in Co Mayo has been named locally as Luca Callaghan.

Shortly before 1am, gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a single vehicle on the R319 in Keel on Achill Island.

Luca, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been notified and a report is due to be sent to the local coroner. The road at the scene has since reopened to all traffic.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for anyone with video footage from the area around the time of the collision, including motorists with dash-cam footage, to come forward.
