That drive-thru Ash Wednesday service took place this morning, and the photos are incredible

Ashes, get your ashes.

LAST WEEK, WE told you about St. Patrick’s Church in Glenamaddy, Co. Galway, and their plans to implement a drive-thru service for Ash Wednesday. For people on the go, you know yourself.

And it looks as though the whole operation went off without a hitch.

The church posted photos from the drive-thru service on Facebook this afternoon and thanked “all involved for the reverent, respectful manner in which the distribution of ashes was carried out this morning”.

By the looks of things, loads of parishioners queued up to get their Ash Wednesday fix.

The church told DailyEdge.ie that they wanted to make the whole thing “as easy as possible” for locals.

And boy, did they.

Don’t have a window to roll down? No worries – they’ll come to you.

The church said there was a “wonderful atmosphere” and noted that people were “very complimentary”.

Maybe it’s time for all parishes to follow suit?

Transferring large sections of the population of Africa and the Middle East (mostly young and male) to Europe could not continue indefinitely.

@Mark Malone: The EU needs the big damming headlines back of hundreds of lives lost trying to cross the Med in over passenger-ed inflatables so they can re-rally the liberals to re-open the borders

Find it hard to disagree with this, at this stage, it was more a taxi service than a rescue.

I think the issue must be tackled at source as in dealing internationally with the nations that effectively force people to flee. It must be a two pronged approach, rescue alone is not solution, but may actually contribute to the problem if rescue is seen as a safety net.

Of course I believe the rescue operations should continue, but the underlying cause must also be addressed.

It is easy to be critical here in Ireland but we are not faced boat loads of refugees arriving on our beaches or slipping across the border in the dark of night…

@Niall Ó Cofaigh: Eh, the whole concept of rescue is that it is a saftey net from drowning surely?

Absolutley this is “an outrageous abdication of EU governments’ responsibilities”

Why on earth would we think it permissible to allow people to drown

Expect a lot of troll commenting like from Battaz above, who will of course refuse to engage with the central premise underpinning their comments, ie people whould be left to drown in the Med
