15-year-old killed in road traffic accident in Ashbourne

The teenage pedestrian was struck by a car this afternoon and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 15-YEAR-OLD BOY has died after being struck by a car in a fatal road traffic collision in Ashbourne in Meath.

The teenage pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by a car on the M2 at around 4.40pm this afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.  The M2 Ashbourne by-pass is currently closed in both directions while an examination of the scene is carried out by Garda forensic collision investigators. Diversions are in place in the area.

Gardaí have asked any witnesses who were travelling on the M2 at around the time of the accident to contact Ashbourne Garda Station on 01-801 0600, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
