Manhunt underway after elderly man assaulted on Arranmore Island

Gardaí believe the person responsible is still on the island as it’s difficult to get on and off.

A MANHUNT IS underway after an 82-year-old man was assaulted and robbed on Arranmore Island last night.

At around 8pm, an intruder entered the home at Ailt an Chorrainn and threatened and man-handled the elderly man before making off with a sum of cash.

Speaking on Highland Radio Superintendent David Kelly said it’s likely the person responsible is still on the island as it’s “difficult to get on and off”.

“It’s a very unusual development for something like this to happen on the island of Arranmore.

I am aware that after the incident last night – there were no more ferries sailing … so I would hope anybody who is a resident on the island, if they see anybody acting suspiciously, prior to or after 8 o’clock last night, to please contact the gardaí.

The man, who is in 80s, didn’t sustain any serious injuries.

Gardaí at Milford Garda Station are investigating.
