Fears for 160 jobs at Assurant Solutions in Cork

Bad news on the jobs front ahead of the government’s celebration of the bailout exit.

FINANCIAL SERVICES COMPANY Assurant Solutions is conducting a strategic review of its business operations in Ireland and the UK, putting 160 jobs at its Cork office in jeopardy.

The company said it is entering a consultation period to “realise the benefits of the successful acquisition” of a separate group in the UK.

A plan to consolidate its European headquarters, management team, customer care and support functions in Crewe is being considered.

Talks with associates in Cork have already started and the company conceded that it is “possible that this proposal could result in the closure of the Cork operation”.

The news comes ahead of the government’s planned day of celebrations tomorrow to mark the country’s exit from the IMF/EU bailout programme.
