The Aston Martin DB9 Volante is a real movie star's car

Make like Bond in one of the world’s most desirable cars.

IF I HAD the money I’d buy…

A handsome and stylish two-seat convertible grand tourer that is both comfortable and sporty at the same time. A powerful car with an engine that produces a rousing soundtrack, especially with the roof down. A car that is deemed far more exclusive and desirable than the majority of its rivals. I’d buy an Aston Martin DB9 Volante.

Why an Aston Martin DB9?

The Aston Martin DB9 on release was described as one of the most desirable cars in the world. It is a stunning-looking motor with a broad, deep front grille set between large oval headlamps. It has curves in all the right places and plenty of road presence.

It also has impeccable road manners, unshakeable grip and supreme balance and handling. It is light and agile and offers a very comfortable ride. The car is a dream to drive especially with the roof down and the wind in your hair.

What’s special about this particular one?

This 2006 model is the two-seat Volante convertible version, which has a fully automatic soft-top with a glass rear window including an in-built heater.

The cabin looks elegant and classy finished in this black leather and walnut trim and the dual-stage heated, electric seats with lumbar support are extremely comfortable and supportive.

It is powered by a glorious-sounding 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine which makes 569Nm of torque at 5,000rpm and 444hp at 6,000 rpm and is mated to a slick six-speed ZF automatic gearbox. It has 78,999km on the clock and costs €1,809 a year to tax.

What does it look like in action?

Watch this in-depth review of the DB9 as it swooshes around the hills of Southern France. Turn up the volume, ignore the irritating music and listen to that engine sound. It is stunning.

Who else drives one?

The rich and famous with good taste and discerning enthusiasts drive Astons. Def Leppard’s Phil Collen drives an Aston Martin DB9, Ben Affleck owns an Aston Martin DB9 Volante as do Steven Spielberg,  Michael Jordan, Ryan Seacrest and Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ White.

It costs €69,950. What else could you get for the money?

For the same money, you could have this stunning 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250

… or this 1991 Sealine 328 Sovereign, which was refitted in 2015.
