Update: Two dead after road traffic accident on road outside Athy

A motorcyclist in his 20s, and a female car passenger in her 80s, have been killed; the car’s driver is seriously injured.

TWO PEOPLE have died after a serious traffic accident in Co Kildare this afternoon.

The incident occurred when a car and motorcycle collided on the N78 road joining Athy to the M9.

The two deceased include the motorcyclist, a male aged in his 20s, and a female passenger of the car aged in her 80s.

The driver of the car, a man in his 80s, has been seriously injured.

All three have been removed to Naas General Hospital.

The road remains closed while a Garda forensic examination continues.
