Atlantic Homecare announces plans to close five stores

Stores in Dublin, Cork, Newbridge, Limerick and Galway are threatened with closure.

ATLANTIC HOMECARE HAS announced that it intends to to close five of its 13 stores nationwide.

The company is also appointing an interim examiner to oversee the administration of the DIY outlet, which is owned by the Grafton Group.

SIPTU says it plans to meet with that examiner to discuss the extent of possible jobs losses as a result of the closures, which are planned for Liffey Valley in Dublin, Pouladuff in Cork, Newbridge in Kildare, Childers Road in Limerick and Wellpark in Galway.

SIPTU also said that this has come as a shock to the workers affected and that efforts will be made to save as many jobs as possible and the secure adequate redundancy terms for those whose employment cannot be maintained.

Earlier today pharmaceutical giant Pfizer confirmed the loss of 177 jobs at two of its manufacturing plants in Cork.
