There's still time to apply for 'Available Places' through CAO

Do you know about this list of courses with places still available? Get on it…

ANYONE IMMERSED IN points tables and CAO offers should be aware that there is still a chance to apply for the CAO ‘Available Places’ facility.

This service lists places that remain unfilled in certain courses after all first-round offers have been made and there is no-one left on the waiting list for them.

There is no charge for existing CAO applicants for checking this list and adding any of these courses to their Level 8 or Level 7/6 wishlist – but applications for places on it have to arrive in the CAO before 11am on Monday, so get cracking if you were thinking of doing this by post. You can also apply online.

New applicants can also apply for these ‘Available Places’ – for a fee of €40.

Once you meet the 11am Monday deadline, offers will be processed in time for the Round Two offers on Thursday of next week (28 August), which you will be able to view on TheJournal.ie at 6am that morning.

(Bonus deadline tip – Closing date for Round One offers acceptance is 5.15pm on Monday.)

The CAO has a few extra tips on applying for ‘Available Places’:

  • If you still want to be considered for any existing courses you already applied for, make sure to insert any ‘Available Places’ courses BELOW those ones
  • You also insert the ‘Available Places’ courses above any offer you have already received
  • Ignore any previously published points (ie, Round One points) for courses in the ‘Available Place’ list
  • Do, however, check that you meet the normal minimum entry requirements for the course in question
  • An application for an ‘Available Place’ does not guarantee an offer
