Five-month-old baby boy killed in car crash

A three-year-old toddler was also injured in the single-vehicle crash.

A FIVE-MONTH-OLD BABY has been killed and a three-year-old toddler injured after the car they were travelling collided with a barrier on the Athlone Bypass.

The male driver and female front passenger, both in their late 20s, were uninjured.

The toddler was in the back seat of the vehicle. Her injuries are described as non-life threatening.

The baby boy was taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe with serious injuries, but was later pronounced dead.

The eastbound Athlone Bypass between junctions 13 and 11 is currently closed. A forensic examination of the scene is due to take place.

Gardai wish to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to contact Athlone Garda Station on 090 – 6498550, the Garda Confidential Telephone line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
