SENATOR IVANA BACIK will be Labour leader Eamon Gilmore’s running mate in the next general election. She was selected as a candidate in the Dun Laoghaire constituency last night at a party convention. The barrister and law lecturer ran on the ticket on then-party President Proinsias De Rossa in the 2004 election but she was not elected. She did not stand in the 2007 general election. She was elected a Senator for the University of Dublin constituency as an independent candidate. She stood for Labour in the Dublin Central by-election in June of last year but failed to get elected.
