A man in his 30s was killed in a car crash in Co Galway tonight

A woman is in serious condition at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

A MAN AGED in his 30s has died after the car he was a passenger in collided with a second vehicle near Ballinasloe, Co Galway this evening.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred at around 8.35 pm tonight on the Kilconnell Road (R348) at Nutfield Cross, outside Ballinasloe.

The female driver has been taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe with serious injuries, according to Gardaí.

The male and female occupants of the second car were taken to the same hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The scene has been preserved while investigators perform an examination, and diversions are in place.

This evening’s fatality brings to 147 the number of people killed on the roads in Ireland so far this year.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to call Ballinasloe Garda station on 090-963-1890, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or contact any Garda station.
