The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #MIDLETON: Sinn Féin councillor Pat Buckley is calling for a full inquiry into the death of a toddler in Midleton. Two-year-old Vakaris Martinaitis died following a fall from an upstairs window at his home. A neighbour had to drive him to hospital because there was no ambulance available in the area at that time of the accident.

2. #BANGLADESH: A woman has been found alive 17 days after a Bangladesh garment factory collapsed killing at least 1,045 people. Rescue teams were stunned when they heard a voice calling for help and found Reshma trapped in the basement under piles of rubble. Soldiers said the survivor was in remarkably good shape, despite her ordeal.

3. #CONCERT DEATH APPEAL: Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information following the death of a 21-year-old man at the now-infamous Swedish House Mafia concert at the Phoenix Park last summer. They wish to talk to a taxi driver who gave the deceased and two other men a lift home on the 8 July 2012. The 21-year-old complained of being ill and an ambulance was then called. He was taken to James Connolly Hospital, where he died a short time later.

4. #CHIEF WHIP: Two men have been arrested after the constituency office of government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe was burgled and set on fire in New Ross, Co Wexford early this morning. It is understood a solicitor’s office in the town was also targeted. The men aged 21 and 33 are being detained in New Ross for questioning in connection with the incidents.

5. #VISA: Difficulties were encountered earlier today by people who were trying to make transactions using their Visa Debit cards. Both AIB and Permanent TSB customers experienced problems with transactions failing over lunchtime. However, the cards seem to be back in working order again following the outage.

Fair play to you Harte and fair play to the people of Carron; by and by, some of the worlds best loved art works weren’t universally liked when they were first unveiled so you’re in good company.

It’s a class piece of work. Fair play. The “priest” brought it up at mass….. we are still listening to them:-( Move on. With about 700 religions around the world set up to prey on the vulnerable we are still afraid to stand up to ours. Hopefully the next generation will have zero subserviency to them and grow up with no impression instilled in them

@Niall Gannon: Such bollixology doesn’t become you. €30k of tax payer’s money to produce works of art like that? And the cost keeps rising, due to relocation etc; Hope there’s no Mica in the Púca. Should be sent to Poulaphuca and be drowned!! Most modern day “artists” I know, couldn’t draw the dole!!

@Niall Gannon: what has this article got to do with religion? You say the “priest” brought it up at mass, and you go on an anti religion rant, why are you going to mass if you don’t agree with it?, what are you, seven years old?

@Julian King: I don’t think he was at mass when the priest brought it up.

Most people would know that one of the things that started the controversy was PP Fr Willie Cummins denouncing it from the altar at Sunday Mass.

Apparently he decribed it as ‘sinister’.

I believe Fr Cummins has since been relocated back to the 17 century.

@Julian King: the priest denounced the statue and all of a sudden ” we don’t want the statue here”. Hopefully my sons generation do not have to deal with this crap from men in robes who have no life skills. The sooner the better the church is done here the better imo.

It’s pure class I think it’s a lovely piece ,I’m willing to bet a small portion of my wages that a small group of probably retired gossipers who have been allocated too much power in the community of Ennistymon are responsible for this bad decision and the people of Carron will forever be grateful for this gift.

if we start hunting withes like in the middle ages then .. maybe the next victims sould be the leprechauns whose images are sold all around ireland to swarms of tourists : mugs, tshirts, key rings etc etc .. they are quite more famous that this poor Puca ! Bravo to the town which agreed to welcome this statue which remembers all of us that myths are the founding fathers of all civilisations !
