Bangladeshi man survives nine days trapped in cargo container

Port worker’s companion died after they were accidentally trapped in the container.

A BANGLADESHI PORT worker reportedly survived nine days trapped without food or water in a cargo container shipped to Singapore.

Another man trapped with him died.

The New Paper of Singapore reported today that 30-year-old Din Islam said he became trapped while resting in the container at Bangladesh’s Chittagong port on 1 April.

Police said Din and the other man’s body were discovered on Sunday by a worker at Pasir Panjong Terminal who heard loud banging in the container. Police didn’t elaborate on how long the men might have been there.

Police said Din was hospitalised for dehydration and is in stable condition.
