Poll: Should the next government bring in a new bank holiday?

Sinn Féin are pretty fond of the idea – but do we need one?

WE’VE ANOTHER BANK holiday weekend on the way later this month – but should we introduce a new one to the official State calendar?

Sinn Féin are pretty fond of the idea – TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh raised a proposal this week to establish one on the exact date of the Easter Rising (24 April). Just last month, another SF TD, Padraig MacLochlainn, suggested a new holiday should be brought in on 23 May each year to mark the passing of the same-sex marriage referendum.

There are nine public holidays in Ireland each year, compared to the UK’s eight. In France, however, they have eleven (13 in some regions).

What do you think?

Poll Results:

Just a general 'yes' - we need the break. (5430)
Yes - on 24 April (3837)
No, we don't need one. (3219)
Yes - on 23 May. (847)
