Armed robbery attempt at a bank foiled by gardaí in Meath

The men were under supervision by gardaí in connection with a number of tiger kidnappings and armed robberies.

THREE MEN HAVE been arrested after gardaí foiled a robbery attempt at a bank this morning.

A firearm was recovered following a garda operation which took place in Dunboyne, Co Meath in what gardaí are calling a “significant operation”.

Two men were arrested at the scene and another man was arrested a short distance away. No injuries occurred in the operation.

At a press conference earlier today, Detective Superintendent Tony Howard said:

One of the gang had been wearing body armour… So there was an anticipation that they may have come in contact with An Garda Síochána.

The gardaí have described the men as “high-level targets”, and said that they were under surveillance in connection with a number of tiger kidnappings and armed robberies.

The three men in their 30s are detained at Blanchardstown and Finglas garda stations.

In a report on RTÉ Radio’s News at One, crime correspondent Paul Reynolds said that over €1,000,000 in cash was being delivering to an ATM in the town at the time of the arrests.

This morning’s operation was lead by the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and involving a number of garda units, including the Special Crime Task Force.
