Poll: Would you baptise your child just to get them into a school?

Would you?

CHANGES ARE ON the way for Ireland’s patronage, as Education Minister Richard Bruton has announced plans to introduce multi-faith community national schools.

However, today’s Irish Independent says that the “baptism barrier”, which allows Catholic schools give preference to baptised children, will not be abolished.

Many are in the situation where their nearest, and sometimes only local, school is run by a Catholic board. That means that some people who aren’t practicing Catholics baptise children purely to get them enrolled.

We’re asking: Would you baptise your child just to get them into a school?

Poll Results:

Yes (6124)
No (5134)
I'm a practicing Catholic so would baptise them anyway (3306)
I don't know (767)
