OWNERS OF APARTMENTS in Sandyford Co Dublin, will have to pay around €10,000 per apartment unit to fix water leakage and fire safety problems.
The problems have been reported by residents for some time, and were there when the buildings were bought.
Since residents weren’t told before buying them, they say it’s unfair that they should have to foot the bill.
The issue came to a head last January, when residents were sent invoices to fix the problems, without the exact figure, and a notice that a vote would be held to see should residents pay for the fixes.
Last night, the vote was finally taken at the management company Annual General Meeting, which lasted until almost 1am today.
It was decided that residents would pay for the damages. It’s understood that property company Ires Reit, Cluid, and Dun Laoghaire County Council voted in favour of the payments to be made by residents.
According to one resident, around 20% of the apartments are owner-occupiers.
The overall bill for repairs is more than €10 million, which residents have said previously that they’d struggle to afford.
