Gardaí want your help to find 'intoxicated bicycle gunman'

The man shot through a window on Beaver Street last week.

GARDAÍ ARE LOOKING for witnesses to an incident that saw a man fire through the window of a house in Dublin city.

A man was arrested after the incident on Beaver Street on 14 May, but gardaí are looking for help in finding out exactly what happened.

They say that the culprit was in the area for a long time and “would have stood out as he struggled to control an adults red mountain bike and firearm, before and after the incident”.

He fell at least twice during the attack and had all the appearance of someone who was intoxicated.

Following the incident he got back on the bike and proceeded slowly along Beaver Street onto Railway St while being followed by a dark coloured saloon car.

Gardaí say they would like to speak with the occupants of that dark coloured car.

A 28-year-old man was arrested near the scene of the shooting, in which there were no injuries.

He was brought to Store Street Garda Station and detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. The man was later released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigating gardaí would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the culprit in the area at the time of the incident and or anyone who has any information regarding the shooting.

In particular, gardaí are seeking the assistance from the local community and would like to speak with anyone who may have seen a man on a bike at Beaver Street, Railway Street and Sean McDermott Street between 10:30pm and 10:40pm on the night of Wednesday 14 May 2014.

The offender was dressed in a light coloured (cream or white) hoody top with dark bands approx 2 inch thick on both upper arms, dark bottoms and dark runners.

Gardai appeal for witnesses to the incident to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
