Belfast bomb was pinned to child's bicycle

One of two bombs uncovered during a major bomb scare in north Belfast last month was tied to a child’s bike.

A BOOBY-TRAP bomb discovered by PSNI officers in north Belfast last month was attached to a child’s bicycle, it has been revealed.

The bomb was found during a sweep of the Antrim Road area of the city, during a major bomb scare that forced scores of families to evacuate their homes for a number of days.

Two bombs were discovered during the operation – neither of which exploded, however senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway said “a trap had been put in place to kill police officers which could easily have murdered members of the public.”

Officers believe that there was an attempt by dissident republicans to lure them to the site of the first bomb by smashing a video shop window; a bomb was later found in the alleyway behind the shop.

RTÉ reports that three men in their 30s have been arrested and are being questioned about the planting of the two devices.
