Bertie, Michael D and Joe Duffy - all on sale at art auction today

Paintings of them, that is.

AN ART AUCTION will be held in Dublin today to raise funds to help artist Alexandra Trotsenko who had some of her fingers cut off during a brutal robbery at her Finglas home in 2009.

About 200 lots will go on sale at Adams Auctioneers in Blackrock, including paintings by Thelma Mansfield and Joe Duffy.

‘All he needs is love’ donated by artist Mai Jinyao has attracted much attention for its depiction of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern being kissed by a monkey. It is expected to sell for between €100 and €200.

The works of art have been on view at the auctioneers over the weekend and a spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that they had been inundated with potential buyers.

It is hoped that the money raised from today’s auction will go towards the artist’s rehabilitation, including the fitting of a prosthetic device to enable her to hold a brush again.

Trotsenko’s attacker James Kenny cut all of her fingers on her right hand before he robbed her apartment. During the random attack, he also stabbed her in the neck, face, abdomen and chest. He was sentenced to 16 years in jail earlier this month, reported the Irish Times.

Here is a small sample of the items on sale form 1pm today:
