ON MONDAY, THE Sky Bar of the Year Awards took place.
The awards honoured the best pubs in Ireland, so we decided to take a closer look at the bars that walked away with the all-important gongs.
First up…
Honoured with the prestigious title of Bar of the Year.
It’s a staple of the Kilkenny nightlife scene.
And the perfect place to drop into for just the one.
The popular Dublin haunt was named Dublin Bar of the Year.
And with good reason…
It’s an institution.
And there’s nowhere else like it on a summer’s day.
The Swords establishment was named Leinster Bar of the Year.
Look at its swish garden.
And divine-looking cocktails.

And swanky seating area.
Winner of Munster Pub of the Year.
Where you can stuff your face with pizzas and beer.
And enjoy a Guinness over candlelight.
Now known as Connacht Bar of the Year.

It houses ALL the whiskey.
And the best chairs ever.

It was named Innovation Bar of the Year. (We’re not quite sure what that means, but just go with it.)
The George Street bar is new to the scene…
But something tells us it’ll be around for a while to come.

The pubs that won.
From the looks of the winning bars… Hipsters.
@Eoin The public voted in 6 of the categories. There were about 30,000 public votes i understand. The rest of the bars in each category, including the winner, were shortlisted by a group of judges from all the bars that entered. Jar.ie were asked and so we were happy to help out here and I’d like to say I shaved my beard last year so I don’t qualify as a hipster any more. I also re-fattened my jeans. We have no affiliation with any bar or bar owners. It’s important to note that bars have to enter this competition themselves in order to be judged. If your favourite bar is better than these bars then they should have entered. Maybe ask them why they didn’t. If anyone wants to know the ins and outs of the judging process then I’ll happily go into detail. We’re on the twitter machine, facebook, grinder.. I mean… instagram.

@jar.ie cheers for the reply. Judging by shortlist for nominations (for Cork anyway) it seems that very few Cork bars in Cork entered. Sober lane is a decent bar but definitely not the best in Cork.
If it is the bars them selves that had to enter then of course they are not the best bars in Ireland. just the ones that took part in your award. to be honest looking at those pictures those pubs although well finished and a credit to their owners their themes are so silimar they would easily work as different areas of a super bar, unless you wanted to work contrast into your interior design.

Unless things have changed, the door men in Langtons are the rudest people I have ever met in this country. I will never set foot in the hole again….and there are better bars in Kilkenny itself.

Nancy Blakes or Tom Collins in Limerick great bars plus five or six more in the city. Good few have won awards for their food too, maybe they should have awards for outside of Dublin

Tom Barry’s in Cork is hard to beat.
cocktails in jamjars and copper cups. FFS. even hipsters probably think it’s naff these days. probably charging 12 to 15 euro as well.

Seems all that you have to do is stick a cocktail in a jam jar and have some mood lighting and you are the best bar around…. sad times..
