Taking it outside: 6 garden seats that are simple, stylish... and weatherproof

To make the most of those brief moments of sunshine, take a seat.

IF YOU’RE THINKING of revamping your outdoor space, low maintenance garden furniture is a no-brainer with our unpredictable weather. Seating that can face up to the elements, without fear of rusting up or going mouldy, is top priority.

Unfortunately, such practicalities can often leave aesthetics by the wayside.

This week, we’ve taken to the ‘gram on a hunt for six weatherproof options that are easy on the eye, too, making them perfect additions to any houseproud person’s Irish garden.

Bright stuff: A compact and lightweight brushed steel bench that can be softened up with plump, weatherproof cushions is perfect for small patios and city balconies, as well as back gardens. We love @jacques_patriaque’s mix of bright colours, greenery and elements of black that all play into this creative and relaxing city space.

For low maintenance and a pop of colour, look to this Brusen seat, made from powder coated steel, at IKEA.

One for all: If one piece of furniture is all you plan on having in your garden, then make sure it stands out. We like how @ourcottageonthelane highlights this delicate, yet sturdy, garden seat and creates a cosy reading nook for when the weather’s good. Surrounded by plant pots and birdhouses, the dark grey backdrop lets the intricate details pop.

Find a very similar bench in antique grey at Woodies for €129.

Hang in there: Given its return to popularity in recent seasons, rattan no longer conjures up thoughts of outdated and bulky garden furniture. And, that’s certainly proven in @bay_beachouse outdoor space. A hanging seat with room for two promotes an element of fun and let’s you swing and watch the world go by.

Find a similar hanging seat in the Lyra, available on Made.com.

Go designer: @lumzhomefashion knows how to dine al fresco by dotting a collection of armchairs around a large wooden table. The Albert Kuip armchair, designed by studio APE, is made from metal, so it’s sure to withstand the harshest weather.

Even better is that it’s lightweight, so it can be moved around the garden quickly and easily if your dining guests want to chase the sunlight.

This exact Albert Kuip armchair can be found on Woo Design for €279.

French fancy: With good weather and the right accessories, it can be easy to create your own little holiday in the back garden. Just ask @bloomingwhite whose shabby chic bistro set-up instantly exudes countryside vibes that nod to the warmer temperatures of central Europe.

Find this set of four bistro-style chairs and a table for €669 at Marks & Spencer.

Back to tradition: If space allows, recreate a lounge in your garden with furniture that wouldn’t look out of place indoors. Perfect for entertaining large groups or panning out in the sunshine, @sammypattersonathome gets it just right with a set up that could easily seat seven people.

If you’re looking for similar box-like traditional styles, this Tresco rattan three-seater from Neptune should do the trick.
