6 laundry baskets so clean and stylish you'd be happy to show them off

The chore might be basic but your accessories don’t need to be.

FOR MANY OF us, the ritual of laundry isn’t first on our list of favourite chores, so anything that makes it a little more enticing is a winner in our book.

From bags and baskets to sturdier wire frames, finding a laundry catch-all that matches the way a household works is sure lighten the load – and a stylish one is an added bonus.

And, let’s face it, going without means we’ll inevitably lose a sock on the way to the machine.

Read on for our edit of six high-functioning laundry baskets that should make us look forward to the next laundry day – a little bit, at least.

1. Jute for the stars: Tactile and malleable jute is a popular material for laundry baskets as it’s tough, so it will last a long time, but it’s also easy to fold away when not in use. @geminitiles makes theirs look right at home, matching it with wooden accessories, yet contrasting it with smooth finishes, so it really stands out.

Check out this jute one from H&M for similar texture.

2. Put a lid on it: White rattan might seem old-hat, but when it comes to laundry it is sure to promote freshness and cleanliness. It also works well as somewhere sturdy to conceal any high piles of laundry. We like how @welshcakesandwellingtons combines white rattan with brown for a more modern and intentional look.

If you like everything in its right place, look to this white rattan corner basket from Marks & Spencer that’s sure to save space.

3. Perfectly placed: Traditional wicker or rattan baskets exude country charm and double up nicely as storage for odds and ends when a quick decluttering is on the cards. Take some inspiration from @_home_edit and find the perfect spot to store your laundry basket, so you can show off its beautifully woven frame, too.

The  Somerton basket from Neptune will create the same countryside vibe.

4. Wire tapped: Ideal if you’re a fan of the industrial look, wire and metal storage bins can double up nicely as laundry baskets. And, if you religiously separate your laundry, then a see-through frame might suit you down to the ground. We like how @rusticritzy lines these wire baskets with linen to keep piles of clothing hidden, but stores them low, so you can still see the contents before you get washing.

Find similar wire laundry bins from Nordic Nest.

5. Strong contrast: Leather detailing against grey is a classic look that promotes strong material and a colour scheme that will suit most tastes and spaces. This one featured by @pomaxbyestellevanhee is so beautiful you wouldn’t mind it taking up room in the hallway.

The Resa laundry basket from Amara is foldable so it’s easy to store away, too.

6. Earned stripes: Perfect in a bedroom for any age, a laundry bag with sturdy handles will easily sling on the back of a door or stand on its own. The kids are sure to be slam dunking those clothes in no time, while @gl_beatriz introduces this one to a mature room and places it beside the bedside table.

This KLUNKA laundry bag from IKEA will hook to anything or stand upright.
