4 of a kind: Bright bungalows with plenty of space for families

Soak up some lakeside views or reach the city centre in minutes.

WITH SPACE FOR the kids to roam around freely without having to worry about hazardous stairs and often complete with their own surrounding hectare or two, it’s no wonder why bungalows are an attractive option for young growing families.

From a dormer in Dublin 6 that’s close to town to a roomy lodge on the water’s edge in Co Clare, this week we visit four lovely bungalows dotted around the country that might just put an end to your house hunt.

Terenure, Dublin 6

For those who need access to the city without compromising space, No. 7 Limekiln Drive is a three-bedroom detached dormer that sits in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of the city. A twenty minute drive will bring you to the centre, while its ideal location in Terenure means the open spaces of Tymon, Bushy and Marlay parks are nearby.

With an open plan kitchen, living and dining area, this home really promotes sociability and a safe environment for young children. As a bungalow with a dormer that’s home to two bedrooms and a family bathroom above, lack of space isn’t an issue. A separate living room and a WC, that complements the ground floor’s bedroom, completes the home.

Scarriff, Co Clare

Bunglasha Lodge is a modern home on the shores of Lough Derg that’s home to an impressive eight bedrooms and four bathrooms. Set on 3.13 hectares, the property has its own private pier and dock, along with three old stone cottages that have planning permission should any prospective buyers wish to renovate them.

The bunaglow also comprises of a dining room and living room that has direct lake views, and French windows to a sunny patio. The country-style kitchen and breakfast room can take a hit thanks to granite worktops and marble floor tiles, while the adjoining utility room provides access to the garage and the outdoors, to create a home with wonderful flow.

Brittas Bay, Co Wicklow

A cottage with sea views that’s just one hour from Dublin makes Rock Cottage an ideal escape for holiday-makers as well as for families who are on the lookout for more space and, above all, tranquility. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms make up this light-drenched home, along with a generous living room, kitchen and utility room.

Outside, landscaped gardens surround the home and its countryside setting. But, there’s more; a full-size tennis court completes the picture. This bungalows southerly orientation means the patios bask in sunlight and contribute to the bright interior.

Charleville, Co Cork

Built in 1820, Garryhu House is our second dormer in this week’s round-up. A period four-bedroom property sitting on 1.1. acres of private grounds, it’s surprisingly located in the centre of Charleville town, so it’s close to everything a bust family might need.

The charming facade matched with its well laid out interior make this a really special find – and unique, too; the home was once a well-known restaurant known as Cappard Lodge. The house comprises of an entrance hallway that leads to a drawing room, a dining room and a spacious country-style kitchen.
