Six killed in three-car crash in Birmingham

Three other people involved in the collision remain in hospital this morning with serious injuries.

WEST MIDLANDS POLICE has confirmed that six people died in an early-morning crash in Birmingham.

The three-car crash happened at Belgrave and Lee Bank Middleway in the city around 1am this morning.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, five people were confirmed dead at the scene and a further person was later pronounced dead.

Three other people involved in the collision remain in hospital this morning with serious injuries.

Sergeant Alan Hands from West Midlands Police’s Collision Investigation Unit said:

“We are currently dealing with a very serious collision and working with partner agencies to establish what caused this collision to happen.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies remain with the families of those who have very sadly lost their lives this morning and those who have been injured or caught up in this incident.”

The road remains closed this morning and is likely to be closed all day while officers make the scene safe.
