Blaze kills 12 at Moscow market warehouse

The blaze came just hours after a fire broke out on the top of a Moscow skyscraper.

TWELVE PEOPLE HAVE been killed today in a deadly blaze that swept though a warehouse in southern Moscow.

The victims, migrant workers from former Soviet states, had been using the two storey building at Kachalovsky market as living quarters, reports AFP. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the victims had come from Tajikistan in order to work at the market.

The fire began at about 5am local time and was put out three hours later, according to the BBC. The living quarters were reportedly cramped and had no escape route. Rescue teams had to cut through metal doors to gain entry.

The market fire comes just hours after a blaze at the top of Moscow’s Federation Tower, in which nobody was injured.
