Recognise that design? BMW's 6 Series GT casts a familiar shape

The new-and-improved Gran Turismo has had a stylish makeover.

THE BMW 5 SERIES Gran Turismo has been long-considered a controversial model due to its somewhat unconventional looks, but the manufacturer has gone back to the drawing board and come up with a replacement. The result is the 6 Series GT, a more curvaceous and slightly more elegant option than its predecessor.

Inside, there’s plenty of space despite the more compact design – although the car is lower, it has more headroom, according to BMW. The dashboard gets a new 10.25-inch touchscreen, there’s gesture control technology from the new 5 Series and there are 620 litres of boot space, with folding seats for more cargo capacity if required.

Like the rest of the BMW range, the 6 Series GT will be available in Sport, Luxury and M Sport trim levels, with wheels ranging in size from 17 to 21 inches.

Initially, there will be two petrol engines; a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit and a straight six-cylinder making 258- and 340hp respectively. BMW will also offer a 3.0-litre option.

Self-levelling air suspension and adaptive suspension will be available as an upgrade for those not satisfied with the standard double wishbone front suspension and five-link rear setup.
