Bodies of man and woman recovered from River Lee

Gardaí are currently not treating the deaths as suspicious.

Updated 7.51am

TWO BODIES, A man and a woman, have been recovered by Naval Service divers from the River Lee in Cork city centre.

Gardaí are not currently treating the deaths as suspicious.

Post mortem examinations are due to be carried out.

The incident unfolded yesterday evening at Custom House Quay.

Gardaí, Naval divers, the Coast Guard, and voluntary organisations were all involved in the operation.

Mallow Search and Rescue have said the search was initially just for one person, believed to be homeless and who had been missing for several days, but on arrival they were informed by gardaí that another body was thought to be in the water.

More as we get it.
