Bodies of man and his son found in stream in Dublin

The bodies have been taken from the scene.

TWO BODIES HAVE been taken from a stream in Dublin.

The bodies were taken from water in a stream near Ashington Green in Dublin 7 this afternoon. The stream is close to the Royal Canal.

It is believed that the bodies are those of a man and a young child, a boy aged three.

The pair are father and son and the deceased man is from the local area.

The gardaí received a call around 3pm today. Train service on the Maynooth line had been stopped, but has since resumed.

A number of Dublin Fire Brigade units and a dozen gardaí are on the scene.

The incident is thought to be a tragic accident and the bodies have now been taken from the scene.

Gardaí at Cabra are investigating.

In shock

Local councillor Brendan Carr (Labour) said that the local area is “in shock”.

“He was a nice young lad, from a very respected family.”

It is believed that the man was taking Easter eggs to a relative, taking a shortcut across the canal, when the accident happened.
