Body recovered from River Lee in Cork

A Naval Service dive team was deployed to recover the body from a vehicle in the water at Kennedy Quay in Cork city this afternoon.

THE BODY OF a man has been recovered from the River Lee in Cork city this afternoon.

A Naval Service dive team were involved in the operation following a Garda request. Earlier, members of the Mallow Search and Rescue team had identified a vehicle in the water using a side-scan sonar.

The dive team arrived at the scene at 1.30pm and recovered the body from the vehicle at around 2.15pm in the area around Kennedy Quay.

The body was was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem examination will be carried out.
