This attendance and level of interest really shows that there is a gap in the Irish market for investors to really transform some LOI clubs. Build a 20/30k stadium and watch the crowds increase over time and revenue will follow. Bit of investment in squad players and will likely get into Europe. Shamrock rovers are making over 7€ million in Europe alone this year so far…

@J B: most anti semitic team on the globe? Legia Warsaw, Hamburg, Partizan and SS Lazio are all far worse. They actually hate Jews, and it has nothing to do with Palestine. They don’t give a f about Palestine. I mean you could list off dozens of clubs who are anti semitic and have been for decades.

@Joe Willis: I somehow forgot Dresden. They are without a doubt the most anti semitic club on the globe, for obvious reasons.

I’m not a soccer fan,but it’s great to see the Irish soccer clubs and league on the rise. It will be great to see more Irish club jerseys around the place rather than that money going to English clubs for theirs.

I have a theory that Man Utd becoming unwatchable has led to an increase in interest in the league of Ireland. That and the sort of random scattergun of billionaires just taking over any club and playing premier manager with them.

If the LOI is to progress further though the stadiums have to improve. It will always appear amateurish otherwise.

@John Moore: What billionaires? You have Desmond who spends very little on Shamrock Rovers, a lot of the time it’s the fans that generate the money and increase support, I mean with Rovers it is a fan owmed club.

@John Moore: It has nothing to do with the unwatchability, it has all to do with the affordability and the quality of the league improving massively, players from across the water are more interested in playing here now as it would be as competitive as League 1/2, we just need to get to a point where the players pay matches what they get in those leagues

Fantastic for the LOI. Delighted we won but we were useless in 2nd half. It shows if we had better stadia and facilities it would be by far the number one sport in this country or at least Dublin.

@Trevor Harris: Give it time, Kerry FC have shown its possible to grow year on year and slowly establish themselves into the league, 2 years in and they already have a win against former Premier division Finn Harps, next few year might see a few more expansions with Mayo FC stated to join next year, Meath expressing an interest too, Kildare is a massively growing population, only makes sense for a team of their own, maybe re-establish Kildare County FC again…

@Trevor Harris: You’re not though Trevor. You are ok with having a sporting allegiance that involves driving to an airport, flying to England, and getting the Stansted Express train to a team in London. That should make it easier for you to get your head around crossing the Kildare border on a Friday night.

@Declan Young: it’s true. I gave up supporting United many moons ago over comments made by an English lad to me.. respectfully too. Made it worse. But most of Europe laugh at us die hard English football supporting Irish people. It’s absolutely ridiculous how bad we look! When I was in Greece once, a lad asked me who my team was. I said Man Utd and he couldn’t wrap his head around it. Genuinely. He was asking me if I was English or come from there etc… I explained the whole ‘best league in the world’ thing and he couldn’t stop laughing. We are brainwashed fools running after English clubs. I’ve heard every argument about for it.. none of it washes with me anymore. Been supporting Bohs for years now and so do my sons. Zero interest in the premier league now so they do.
