Boil water notice to stay in place for 10,000 people

It could be a number of days before the notice is lifted.

A PRECAUTIONARY BOIL notice warning for some 10,000 people in East Cork is now set to remain in place.

Irish Water issued the notice on Friday after heavy rain.

This is the third time in two months that people in this area have received notice to boil or buy their drinking water.

Irish Water says it is carrying out daily testing of the water. However, it said it could be a number of days before the notice is lifted.

The utility is advising the customers to boil all water for drinking, food preparation, brushing of teeth and making ice until further notice.

However, water can be used for personal hygiene, bathing and flushing of toilets.

The supply serves customers in Midleton South East, Ballynacorra, Cloyne, Aghada, Whitegate, Ballycotton, Churchstown, Trabolgan and surrounding rural areas.

Additional advice and a map of the affected area is available on www.water.ie.
