Bomb disposal unit deals with viable device in Tallaght

A controlled explosion was carried out on the viable IED, which was found outside a house this lunchtime.

AN ARMY BOMB disposal unit has carried out a controlled explosion on a viable device found outside a house in Tallaght.

The unit was deployed by the Defence Forces just before 3pm after the viable improvised device was found outside a private home.

Adjoining houses were evacuated while the device was removed to a safe location, where the controlled explosion was carried out.

A cordon was also put in place around the scene of the discovery for public safety.

The area was declared safe at 3:50pm and the remains of the device are to be handed over to Gardaí to assist in their investigations.
