Groundbreaking new cancer treatment discovered by Belfast researchers
The process uses the aggressive nature of cancer cells against them.

RESEARCHERS AT QUEEN’S University Belfast have discovered a groundbreaking new treatment for bowel cancer.
The process can target and kill bowel cancer cells, and may improve survival rates for patients globally.
The research, published in the Molecular Cancer Therapeutics journal, is deemed the first of its kind with the discovery of a novel treatment strategy for patients who originally present with an extremely poor survival outcome.

The study compared two groups of bowel cancer patients one year post-diagnosis. Members of the first group were considered to be doing “well” while members of the second group had a poorer outcome.
Dr Nicholas Forsythe, lead researcher at the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology at Queen’s University, explained that the research focused on an aggressive subgroup of colon cancers known as BRAF mutants.
“These cancers are not only extremely aggressive, but they do not respond well to conventional cancer treatments. Unfortunately this means patients diagnosed with a BRAF mutant cancer have a very poor prognosis.
Our research has identified a cellular process that can be exploited in order to kill these cancer cells. Essentially, we can take advantage of the aggressive biology of these cancers and use it against them.
The researchers said the next step of this work is to explore novel drugs which could ultimately change the survival outcome for patients.

@Dave Doyle: Show me the evidence (and I mean solid evidence) that this has been shown to be true. Cannabis has been proven to provide antiinflammatory effects as well as pain relief. It’s not a wonder drug. As a matter of fact, there have been very little studies to show that it works, and all the studies that have been “officially” done have been either inconclusive or shown that it has no effect.
@Dave Doyle: funny thing to say, but there’s never been a better time in human history than now, to get cancer. There have been huge advances in recent years, with better outcomes, better treatments, better diagnostics, better drugs, all mainly thanks to brilliant researchers and this fictitious entity you call big pharma. Grow up.
@Dave Doyle: Cannabis may have some benefits and uses, it’s nonsense to say it kills most or all cancers without compelling evidence. That’s the same thing as saying battery acid can kill all types of cancer – at last, a cure.
People have this notion that big pharmaceutical companies are the enemy because… well, they make enormous profits. So do many others, in fact the biggest and most profitable companies aren’t pharmaceuticals. And let’s be honest, in order to produce a new drug, any drug, they have to invest enormous sums of money, sometimes billions, in research and development. It doesn’t always pay off either. We don’t like it, but it’s reasonable that they want to recoup that investment.
Of course there are other times when they accidently hit the jackpot, as when Pfizer developed a drug to treat hypertension and angina. They noticed an… ahem, unusual side effect and Viagra was born.
When an ‘alternative medicine’ works it stops being alternative, you can’t be certain if that lump of bark you’re chewing has an active ingredient, what strength, how many other ingredients(or bugs). So it’s refined, the active ingredient is taken out and placed into a pill so you can be certain you’re getting the same dose every time. It’s also tested. So you can be assured it’s safe, but don’t take it with these medications or your hair will fall out (kidding, although).
If you need an excuse to get a buzz, go ahead, but please don’t use a false one, just be honest enough with yourself and everyone else to say what you’re doing.
@Dave Doyle: there is not one single shred of solid evidence to say cannabis kills cancer. Yes it can kill cancer in a test tube or petri dish but so can washing up liquid. What it can do is relive some of the side effects of chemo and other cancer treatments. On another note it makes me laugh when people give out about Big Pharma, I wonder who these people will be relying on to provide the medication god forbid they get cancer.
@Brian Boru: excellent reply Brian, I’ve zero against cannabis, I smoked it myself back in the day, but to claim it cures cancer is absurd, as a cancer survivor of fifteen years after ‘big pharma’ treatment, I weep when I see this rubbish!
@Tim Vos: There’s a multitude of information re studies on various types of cannabis and their effects on cancer to be found on google.
I have arthritis my ankles and knees after years of playing competitive sports. I take Turmeric capsules to stop the inflamation and kill the pain.
I suppose you’ll tell me i’m wrong and should be taking prescribed medicines.
@Dave Doyle: Making blanket claims about cannabis doesn’t do you any favours. I do agree with you that there appears to be major benefits stemming from cannabis oil for the treatment of some diseases, but let’s not get carried away. More research needs to be done.
@Dave Doyle: I have nothing against cannabis, and I’m fact would promote it for effects such as pain or inflammation and conditions like arthritis, CBD and THC have both been proven effective for this. But a blanket statement to say that it cures all cancers is absurd and wrong. Like everything, it’s only effective with certain conditions, circumstances, and applications. It also comes with risks and there is very little studies in interactions with other medications. If you’re happy with tumeric then I would be the last to tell you to stop using it, in fact if it works, then that’s great, but we’re talking about a generalised statement about cannabis, not tumeric.
@Dave Doyle: This make come as a shock to you, but google is a search engine, not an independent medical, evidence based research organisation. You alone are not a randomised double blind study and your testimony for the efficacy of turmeric therefore becomes irrelevant. You can however take heart that nobody is telling you what to do.
Having said that, there is no medical evidence to indicate that turmeric has any anti inflammatory or analgesic properties.
There is no evidence for the use of cannabis for neuropathic pain, pain from damaged nerves, nor is there evidence that is relieves the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Studies have shown cannabis has little effect in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and causes significant side effects.
In trials for nausea during chemotherapy treatment the proportion of people who experienced nausea and vomiting who received cannabis-based medicines was similar to conventional anti-nausea medicines. However more people left the studies due to the unwelcome side effects of cannabis compared to placebo or other anti-nausea medicines.
Cannabis does get you high, cause a sense of euphoria, and it’s this ‘side effect’ many people deliberately seek out, it’s this ‘side effect’ they want. For many people the ‘high’ is unwelcome and unwanted but for others this is what they seek, that however is not proof of any medical efficacy. It just confirms that the cannabis is indeed a psychoactive drug and they are stoned.
Strange…Professors and oncologist in ROI was unaware of this trial treatment 3 weeks ago. Very p..st! My wife might had still been alive if this treatment was known.
This treatment might had saved my wife who had passed away 2 weeks ago. Strange..professors and oncologist over here ROI was unaware of this treatment ! Pi..ed!
Would had saved my 33 year old wife’s life if known there was a trial treatment like this 3 weeks ago. Very sad and dissapointed that the professionals was unware of this treatment.
