Boy (15) arrested after explosive made safe by bomb squad

The IED was found at a house in Corduff Gardens.

A 15-YEAR-OLD BOY has been arrested in Dublin in connection with the discovery of a improvised explosive device.

The device is understood to have been discovered by gardaí during a planned search of a house at Corduff Gardens in Blanchardstown at around 7.20pm.

The Defence Forces bomb disposal squad was called once the explosive was found.

Homes nearby were evacuated.

The team arrived at around 8.15pm, and made the device safe.

A statement from the Defence Forces said the device was removed for further examination, after which it was confirmed to be viable. It was destroyed at a military range this morning.

The boy is currently behind held at Blanchardstown Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.
