One of the boys was hospitalised following the incident.

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING after two 12-year-old boys were assaulted by a gang of youths in West Belfast.

The attack took place at 4.30 this afternoon as the two boys were walking towards a bus stop on the Glen Road.

Both of the boys felt something on their neck and one of them fell to the ground. He was taken to hospital after the incident but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it is ”working to establish what type of weapon was used in this assault”.

Sergeant Tom Donnelly appealed to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Police at Woodbourne on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 811 06/09/17.
