Brazilian fire victim had studied in Ireland

Helio Trentin Junior, who perished in the fire at the Kiss nightclub, studied at IBAT in Dublin for most of 2012.

ONE OF THE 234 people who perished in the nightclub fire in Brazil was a former student at IBAT College in Dublin.

Helio Trentin Junior, who is believed to have been aged 26, studied at IBAT for most of 2012.

The college expressed their deepest condolences about his passing and said they were saddened at the death of such a young man:

The staff and students of IBAT College Dublin were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of one of our past students, Helio Trentin Junior, in the recent nightclub fire tragedy in Santa Maria, Brazil.

Helio was with us at IBAT for most of 2012. He was a pleasure to teach and such a lovely guy. He was  always very bright and positive and very well-liked and respected by all his classmates and teachers and anyone who dealt with him here in the college. We are all shocked at the tragic loss of someone at such a young age, with such a bright future.

A book of condolences has been opened at the reception of the college for anyone who wishes to pass on their messages of support to his family and loved ones.

The fire on Sunday at the Kiss nightclub in the southern college town of Santa Maria is described as the second worst inferno in the country’s history.

Authorities have taken four suspects into custody following the tragedy, including two owners of the club and a pair of musicians who allegedly took part in an ill-fated pyrotechnic show being blamed for sparking the blaze.
