BOD takes a punt on whiskey company

The former Ireland captain has invested in an Irish whiskey distillery.

HE MAY ONLY be out of the game a few months, but Ireland’s greatest-ever rugby player isn’t leaving himself short of a few things to do.

After signing up with Newstalk and BT Sport to work as a pundit, Brian O’Driscoll has become an investor, sinking an undisclosed sum into Wicklow’s Glendalough Irish Whiskey distillery.

The former international centre will join the company as a co-owner.

Glendalough recently launched its stable of brands, which includes whiskey, gin and craft poitin in both Australia and the United States.

In addition to investment from the former Ireland and Leinster player, Glendalough has received support from the Wicklow Local Enterprise Office and Bord Bia.

Managing director Barry Gallagher said: “We have been working hard this year developing our craft spirits portfolio and creating exciting and contemporary new brands.”

We have built our distillery in Wicklow, successfully launched in the US and Australia and we’re delighted to have Brian O’Driscoll on board as an investor in our company.Brian’s involvement in the company, along with these recent developments, reflects the scale of our ambitions.
