Get The Look: 6 budget buys inspired by Brian's mid-century modern lounge

Including a feature chair that won’t break the bank.

Each week, we take an Insta-worthy room in Ireland and show you how you can get the look yourself with high street buys.

This week, Brian Whelan’s (@apartment_59) mid-century modern inspired living room was our inspiration.

“I’m very into mid-century modern furniture but unfortunately my budget didn’t stretch that far, so I had to try and find similar pieces on a budget instead,” says Brian. “I really just picked out pieces of furniture I liked and then worked them together to create the space.”

It turned out a little different than what I had initially planned but I’m very happy with the result.

BoConcept, Ikea and Desenio were Brian’s main ports of call when fitting out this room. Below are six high-street products that’ll help you get this look in your own home…

1. Striped rug, €19, Ikea

Brian’s patterned rug adds another point of interest to the room.

2. Blue and gold print, €19.95, Desenio

Create an effective gallery wall by choosing a colour theme and adding prints of varying sizes.

3. Blue and black print, €15, Fy

This print matches Brian’s three images perfectly.

4. Rose gold floor lamp, €21.99, Argos

A pop of rose gold works surprisingly well with a muted colour palette.

5. Birch chair, €39, Ikea

It can be hard to find lounge chairs on a budget, and this one from Ikea is a steal. You could even stain the wood to make it more like Brian’s.

6. Artificial plant, €29.99, JYSK

Real or artificial plants tie any space together.
