Motor Envy: The BMW M2 Coupé is a fast and fabulous performance car

Christmas is coming. Just saying.

What’s this then?

This is, perhaps, one of the most anticipated BMWs in the last few years. It is the super-duper two-door 2+2 BMW M2 Coupé and this particular 2017 model costs €69,995.

What’s so special about it?

The BMW M2 Coupé shares components with its bigger brother the M4. However, it is much more forgiving to drive on Irish roads. Driving enthusiasts will love the different drive modes which you can select depending on your requirements.

There is Comfort mode for cross-country cruising, Sport mode for school-run fun (sure, why not?) and Sport+ for when you feel like putting your driving skills to the test (after the school run).

Any standout design features?

Design features include traditional M touches like quad exhausts, a deep set bumper with Air Curtains and gorgeous 19-inch forged alloy wheels that fill the flared arches. Those very wheel arches give the car a muscular, squat and aggressive stance that looks good, especially in this eye-catching Long Beach Blue metallic paint.

The blue theme is continued in the cabin with blue stitching contrasting nicely with the black Dakota leather and carbon fibre trim.

And what powers this BMW M2?

The M2 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine mated to a seven-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic.

The engine produces 370hp with maximum torque of 465Nm and does the 0-100km/h dash in a rapid 4.3 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 250km/h.

Does the BMW M2 have any luxurious touches?

It does indeed. Those front sport seats are heated and there is a leather multi-function steering wheel. The cabin features automatic air-con, Bluetooth hands-free functionality with USB audio interface as well as the BMW Professional radio with single CD player, DAB digital radio and BMW Online Services.

But who would drive this car?

I would! This is a real driver’s car. It is great on Irish roads, especially in the wet. It is a fun and fast motor but it is very competent and capable too meaning it will make anyone behind its wheel look like a professional driver.

If you love driving and want a modern, fast, fabulous, performance car, this is the car for you.
